"I am committed to providing thorough, high-quality personalised care, with a focus on patient education and empowering individuals to take an active role in their health. I believe strong primary care is key to improving health outcomes"
Some doctors choose general practice for the variety. Dr Jennifer Lam chose it for the opposite reason — the chance to stay, to follow through, and to actually know her patients over time. To educate, to empower, and to hand people the tools to take an active role in their own health.
She has a special interest in women's health, preventative care, and metabolic health, and her approach to all three is the same: unhurried, thorough, and built around the individual sitting across from her. She is particularly passionate about weight management, understanding that for most people it is not a willpower problem but a medical one — shaped by hormones, life stage, metabolic health, mental wellbeing, and a healthcare system that has historically not asked the right questions, especially of women. She is passionate about removing the stigma and approaching all aspects of women's health.
Her path to general practice was not a straight line. Early in her training, she worked in a rehabilitation ward caring for patients who had lost limbs to complications of diabetic foot disease. It was confronting work, and it stayed with her — not as a cautionary tale, but as a reminder of what becomes possible when disease is caught, managed, and prevented before it reaches that point. A placement in the Solomon Islands sharpened that conviction further, showing her what primary care looks like when it works well, and what is lost when it doesn't.
That thread runs through everything she does at Ponti Health today. Dr Lam believes that strong primary care is what stands between a patient and a preventable crisis — and that too many people have come to accept suboptimal health simply because no one has taken the time to look closely enough. Finding a home at Ponti, where that belief is shared, was not a coincidence.
Dr Lam sees patients dealing with weight changes they can't explain, women navigating menopause or PCOS without real answers, and families looking for a GP who will actually remember them next time. Dr Lam offers contraceptive implant insertion and removal, IUD removal, peri-post menopause care, preventative health screening, paediatric care, mental health care plans, and weight management consultations — but more than any individual procedure, she offers continuity. A doctor who is paying attention.
She follows emerging research in women's health closely and is committed to bringing the latest evidence into everyday practice rather than waiting for it to filter through. She believes the gap between what research knows and what patients are told is one of the most important problems in medicine right now — and she takes that seriously.
Outside of the clinic, she is happiest cooking, travelling (Japan keeps calling her back), and spending time with the people she loves.
