Mental Health (inc ADHD) Assessment Clinic
3 clear pathways for diagnosis, treatment and management
Mental health rarely looks the way you expect. Sometimes it's a slow build; sometimes it arrives without warning, especially through hormonal transitions or major life changes.
We are not a high-volume diagnostic service. We are built around functional health outcomes: how you're actually living, day to day, not a cookie-cutter exercise. We have GPs focused on mental and hormone health, GP-Endorsed and Continuation Prescribers for ADHD, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and nurses, all under one roof, working as one team.
Women's Health is our core focus; however, all our clinicians and Specialty Clinics deliver inclusive medical care for every patient, regardless of gender. We are not a crisis or emergency service. Please click here for immediate support.
We are unable to accept new patients requiring Workers' Compensation, WorkCover, NDIS, or DVA support — the one exception is our Esketamine Specialty Clinic through Psychiatry.

This journey starts with your GP, your primary care physician , then a Psychiatrist, Paediatrician or Neurologist. A select handful of GPs (300-600 of the 9500 GPs) will be able to do this in NSW from June 2026.
-
In NSW, Psychiatrists, paediatricians and neurologists primarily handle ADHD diagnosis and medication management. Recent reforms are empowering GPs to play a larger role. Training programs are being implemented to equip 300-600 GPs with the necessary skills to diagnose and manage conditions effectively.
This information is up to date as of May 18,2026.
-
This varies from clinic to clinic. Some places charge a specific fee for a particular diagnosis. We are not fans of this approach, as it assumes a diagnosis before even having the first consultation with a medical expert. The diagnosis and subsequent medication require consideration and time. It is not something to be taken lightly.
This is not a fad; the medication requires qualifications and experience.
If you are seeing our GP it may require 1-2 appointments, followed then by 2-3 Psychiatry appointments.

It's the entry point for Pathway 1 — an appointment with one of our GPs with a special interest in mental health, to explore a potential diagnosis and treatment plan for conditions such as ADHD, PMDD, perimenopause/menopause, anxiety, depression or trauma.
-
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specialises in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, including prescribing medication. You'll see one under Pathway 2 if you've been referred by a GP or another specialist.
-
A GP who has undertaken additional training and been endorsed to assess, diagnose, prescribe and manage ADHD medication, working within our clinic's model of care.
GP Endorsed Prescribers at Ponti Health are unable to assess assess, diagnose, prescribe and manage ADHD for patients that fall into the following criteria:
Patients with psychotic disorders or bipolar disorder.
Patients who utilise cannabis fir any purpose
Patients with significant substance use disorder
Any other complexity that your doctor feels requires further specialist intervention ie a psychiatrist.
-
This is Pathway 3 — a GP who continues your existing ADHD medication once you've already been diagnosed and stabilised by a treating Psychiatrist, Paediatrician or Neurologist, and you've provided a Transfer of Care letter.
-
ADHD can look like depression. It can present as OCD. It can mimic anxiety. Is it hormonally driven? Is it situational?
Psychostimulants prescribed incorrectly can lead to serious health outcomes for you and the people who love you. If you're after a quick tick-and-flick exercise, we're not it — we hold ourselves to a high standard of medicine, governed by our Medical Code of Ethics.
We know of places that take shortcuts, and we've seen and dealt with the effects of that in our rooms. Getting this wrong has real consequences for you as an individual.
-
Both are part of NSW Health's ADHD prescribing reforms, but they cover different stages of care. Ponti Health has doctors who can provide both pathways.
In short: a GP Continuation Prescriber continues an existing treatment plan established by a specialist, while a GP Endorsed Prescriber can assess, diagnose and initiate treatment for eligible patients.
GP Continuation Prescriber: A GP who has completed NSW Health-endorsed training and holds a General Authority Number. They can continue prescribing psychostimulant medication for patients aged 6 and over who already have an ADHD diagnosis and are stable on treatment. Continuation Prescribers manage ongoing care; they do not diagnose ADHD or initiate medication for newly diagnosed patients.
GP Endorsed Prescriber: A GP with additional advanced training under NSW Health's ADHD prescribing reforms. Endorsed Prescribers can assess and diagnose ADHD and initiate psychostimulant medication for eligible patients without requiring a prior psychiatrist assessment.
-
Endorsed Prescribers cannot diagnose and treat patients who use Cannabis.
An honest conversation with your treating clinicians is essential when using cannabis, particularly if you have ADHD or take prescribed psychostimulants.
Although some people report short-term relief, cannabis has no established long-term benefit for ADHD and may negatively affect attention, impulse control, and daily functioning. Frequent use also increases the risk of cannabis use disorder.
Using cannabis alongside stimulant medication raises additional concerns about treatment response, mood, cognition and cardiovascular safety. Cannabis also carries a dose-related risk of psychosis.
Care should focus on evidence-based ADHD treatment, individualised risk assessment and monitoring, alongside support to reduce or stop cannabis use.
-
Most Likely. It tells your doctor what they are working with, so your assessment is accurate and anything prescribed is safe.
-
An example of some of the requirements may involve all or some of the following: Bloods, ECG, Blood pressure diary, mood diary, School reports from primary school or early high school, questionnaires field by an adult who knew you as a child, Urinary drug screen.
-
It's a neurodevelopmental disorder, which means it affects how your brain develops. Symptoms begin before age 12 and include fidgeting, difficulty paying attention and losing things.
This is why our doctors will request questionnaires and school reports along with feedback from significant people in your life.
-
Ponti Health offers three mental health pathways. The right pathway depends on whether you are seeking an initial ADHD assessment, ongoing care following an existing diagnosis, or broader GP mental health support. Our team can help you determine which pathway is most appropriate for you.
-
Yes. In NSW, eligible GPs can prescribe ADHD medication under specific pathways and requirements. At Ponti Health, our GP Endorsed Prescriber and GP Continuation Prescriber pathways allow appropriate patients to receive ongoing ADHD medication management through a GP. Eligibility depends on your diagnosis, treatment history and individual circumstances.
-
Yes. This requires a final appointment with your treating psychiatrist, who needs to confirm you're healthy and doing well on your current medication before care transfers to your GP.
-
A referral from a medical doctor is required to see a psychiatrist and to access the relevant Medicare rebate. Your GP can assess your needs, provide the appropriate referral and share relevant medical information with the psychiatrist to support your assessment and ongoing care.
-
No. A psychologist cannot provide a medical referral to a psychiatrist. You will need a referral from a GP or another medical doctor. Your psychologist can, however, provide reports or supporting information that may be useful as part of your assessment.
-
Ponti Health can discuss autism concerns as part of your mental health care, but a formal autism assessment may require referral to an appropriately qualified specialist or assessment service. Your GP can discuss the most suitable pathway with you, including likely costs and referral options.
-
Your first Endorsed Prescriber appointment is used to review your ADHD diagnosis, medical history, previous treatment and whether medication is appropriate and safe for you. Your GP may also need additional information, investigations or specialist documentation before prescribing. This allows treatment to be planned safely and appropriately rather than rushing straight to a prescription.
-
Short answer - getting mental health right is a serious undertaking.
Because an accurate diagnosis takes more than one conversation, especially with ADHD, where misdiagnosis is common. Our psychiatrists have seen how often an ADHD referral turns out, on proper assessment, to be something else entirely. We are seeing too many patients referred to us for ADHD ultimately diagnosed with a different condition. The extra appointments make sure your diagnosis and treatment are actually right for you.
We're upfront about this: if a quick prescription is what you're after, we're probably not the right fit for you.
-
Ponti Health is a private billing clinic and do not bulk bill. We are transparent with pricing with all our fees listed on our website. If cost is a concern, register for Medicare's Safety Net and track your progress toward it. Once you reach the threshold, you'll pay approximately 20% of the scheduled fee, rather than the 70%. This is an approximate estimation please log into your MyMedicare for more information.
Our GPs and Psychiatrists aren't part of a call centre operation.
They have extensive experience across Australia's public and private health systems. They understand the complexities of mental health care because they've practised at every level.
Ponti Health is not an emergency or crisis service. If you or someone you know needs immediate help, call 000 or go to your nearest Emergency Department. For urgent mental health support, call the NSW Mental Health Line on 1800 011 511 (24/7) or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
Why proper ADHD assessment matters for your health
ADHD assessment isn't a trend - it's serious medical care that deserves serious medical attention.
-
In NSW, only Psychiatrists and a very small handful of GP’s are qualified to diagnose and prescribe medication for ADHD - this is a legal requirement, not a choice.
We've been concerned to hear from patients who've attended standalone ADHD assessment clinics, paying $1,000+ for evaluations, only to discover that these assessments cannot result in a diagnosis or medication prescription. These patients then require referral to a Psychiatrist anyway, essentially paying twice for their ADHD care.
-
A responsible ADHD evaluation requires time and thoroughness. Any competent practitioner needs multiple consultations (typically 2-3), ECGs, blood tests, and a comprehensive assessment to reach an accurate diagnosis. This isn't bureaucratic red tape - it's essential patient safety.
-
ADHD medications carry significant risks when prescribed inappropriately and can cause lifelong complications if misused. More importantly, misdiagnosis means missing what's actually happening. What if your symptoms stem from anxiety, depression, or another treatable condition rather than ADHD? Wouldn't you rather understand what truly needs support?
-
At Ponti Health, our Psychiatrists take the time needed for proper assessment. We believe in getting it right the first time - for your safety, your wellbeing, and your long-term health outcomes.
