Dr Gaurav Tandon is Chief Psychiatrist at Ponti Health and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, bringing exceptional depth of experience in the assessment and treatment of complex mental health conditions.
Dr Tandon's medical journey began in paediatrics before he discovered his true calling in psychiatry—a transition that has profoundly shaped his holistic, patient-centred approach to care. With extensive experience across major teaching hospitals throughout Sydney and rural New South Wales, Dr Tandon has developed particular expertise in managing treatment-resistant depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADHD, mood and anxiety spectrum disorders, psychotic disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Currently serving as a Visiting Medical Officer at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, he takes immense pride in maintaining his commitment to public psychiatry, believing that the insights gained from working within the public system profoundly enrich the care he provides in private practice.
Dr Tandon has cultivated a specialist interest in women's mental health, particularly the intricate relationship between neurohormones and psychiatric conditions. He has completed advanced training through the HER Centre Australia at Monash University under the mentorship of Professor Jayashree Kulkarni, one of Australia's leading authorities in women's mental health. This specialised expertise allows him to provide nuanced, evidence-based care for conditions including perinatal mental health, perimenopause-related mood changes, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and the psychiatric impacts of reproductive transitions.
As Chief Psychiatrist and Co-founder at Ponti Health, Dr Tandon has been instrumental in shaping the clinic's philosophy of care. He coined the term "Slow Medicine" one of the foundational pillars Ponti Health—an approach that prioritises thorough, unhurried consultations and the careful consideration of each patient's unique circumstances over rushed, assembly-line psychiatry. Dr Tandon also co-leads formalised multidisciplinary peer reviews across the entire spectrum of services at Ponti Health, ensuring continuous education, clinical excellence, and collaborative care that benefits every patient.
Beyond his clinical leadership, Dr Tandon serves on the Medical Council of Sydney Local Health District, where he advocates passionately for both physicians and patients, working to enhance the quality and accessibility of psychiatric services across the community.
Dr Tandon's approach combines rigorous evidence-based treatment with compassionate, individualised care. He believes in working collaboratively with patients to develop treatment plans that respect their values, preferences, and life circumstances. Whether managing acute crises, navigating treatment-resistant conditions, or providing ongoing support for chronic disorders, Dr Tandon is dedicated to helping his patients achieve meaningful recovery and improved quality of life.
