Ponti Health’s GP-led service aims to make the journey of assessing and possible diagnosis of ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, PMDD, Trauma, OCD, Postpartum depression & Autism Spectrum Disorder thorough. We don’t take shortcuts.
If you are coming to one of our 5 Mental Health GP’s please note:
They will act as your primary care provider. This is not a one-and-done appointment.
This may include heart assessments in cardiology, collecting school reports and feedback from significant adults who have known you from childhood, and various pathology tests
This may require 2-5 GP appointments prior to your first appointment with our Endorsed Prescriber GP or a Psychiatrist (if required)
You will have to register for MyMedicare (after your 2nd in-person appointment)

Please note that we are not an assembly-line diagnostic centre - we believe in functional health outcomes.
Of the patients seeking ADHD evaluation, approximately 60% either don't have ADHD or present with other conditions requiring attention first.
ADHD assessment is serious healthcare, not a trending topic.

WHERE DO YOU START?
STEP 1: GP Consultation - this is not a diagnostic appointment and acts as a preliminary assessment, symptom review, and medical history, including pathology/ECG, to understand the best path ahead. 2 - 5 GP appointments, as you may need assistance with your foundational health before you can begin treating anything else.
This may look like ensuring your thyroid, iron levels, hormonal health, sleep, heart health, etc have been assessed from a primary care lens first.
STEP 2: GP-endorsed prescriber and/or Psychiatric Evaluation (if required). Ponti Health patients have priority access to Psychiatry rooms. This may not be a single appointment; depending on what else may need addressing, it may require 2-6 appointments on average.
We are seeing approximately 60% of patients coming in for ADHD who, in fact, require treatment for something else entirely.
STEP 3: Once your Endorsed Prescriber GP and/or Psychiatrist has confirmed your diagnosis and established a stable treatment plan, your Ponti Health GP is able to take over care and prescription in a 'Transfer-of-Care' model.
We have 5 GP’s who have completed the accreditation to be a ‘Continuation Prescriber’.

The Ponti Health ADHD Assessment Clinic provides a thorough assessment (History, Pathology, Diagnostics & Investigations) with a Mental Health GP, then a seamless journey into Psychiatry rooms when required.
Ponti Health Mental Health GP’s won’t be able to diagnose and treat ADHD until mid 2027
Once medication has been stabilised by your Psychiatrist, our Mental Health Care GP’s are Continuation Prescribers who can take over care.
Our GPs and Psychiatrists aren't part of a call centre operation.

Why proper ADHD assessment matters for your health
ADHD assessment isn't a trend - it's serious medical care that deserves serious medical attention.

In NSW, only Psychiatrists and a very small handful of GP’s are qualified to diagnose and prescribe medication for ADHD - this is a legal requirement, not a choice.
We've been concerned to hear from patients who've attended standalone ADHD assessment clinics, paying $1,000+ for evaluations, only to discover that these assessments cannot result in a diagnosis or medication prescription. These patients then require referral to a Psychiatrist anyway, essentially paying twice for their ADHD care.

A responsible ADHD evaluation requires time and thoroughness. Any competent practitioner needs multiple consultations (typically 2-3), ECGs, blood tests, and a comprehensive assessment to reach an accurate diagnosis. This isn't bureaucratic red tape - it's essential patient safety.

This journey starts with your GP, your primary care physician , then a Psychiatrist, Paediatrician or Neurologist. A select handful of GPs (300-600 of the 9500 GPs) will be able to do this in NSW from June 2026.

In NSW, Psychiatrists, paediatricians and neurologists primarily handle ADHD diagnosis and medication management. Recent reforms are empowering GPs to play a larger role. Training programs are being implemented to equip 300-600 GPs with the necessary skills to diagnose and manage conditions effectively.

This varies from clinic to clinic. Some places charge a specific fee for a particular diagnosis. We are not fans of this approach, as it assumes a diagnosis before even having the first consultation with a medical expert. The diagnosis and subsequent medication require consideration and time. It is not something to be taken lightly.
This is not a fad; the medication requires qualifications and experience.
If you are seeing our GP it may require 1-2 appointments, followed then by 2-3 Psychiatry appointments.

It's a neurodevelopmental disorder, which means it affects how your brain develops. Symptoms begin before age 12 and include fidgeting, difficulty paying attention and losing things.
This is why our doctors will request questionnaires and school reports along with feedback from significant people in your life.

At Ponti Health, there aretwo2 pathways:
You can send us your referral from your GP for our Psychiatry rooms. It takes between 2 and 4 appointments on average for a diagnosis. This is merely a guideline and is dependent on individual needs.
You can come in for a fresh assessment with our GPs, which means priority access for Psychiatry appointments. We do this because our GPs are mental health trained and get to work very closely with our Psychiatry and Psychology team. It is beyond the hallway chat; we have formalised Multi-Disciplinary Peer reviews at Ponti Health, where doctors come together to discuss and learn about patients’ unique cases.

Medicare benefits are available and vary based on the type of consultation and eligible services provided. You will be required to pay the full cost of the consultation. At the time of payment, we’ll process the electronic Medicare claim for you, which will be credited directly to your debit card or the bank account that you've registered with Medicare.
If you are on a Mental Health Care Plan or an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, you will also be eligible for a benefit from Medicare.

Once your out-of-pocket medical expenses reach $2,615.50 in a calendar year, Medicare steps in to cover up to 80% of additional costs for Medicare-subsidised services (MBS).
This benefit happens automatically for individuals. Families need to register once to activate this coverage.
The Safety Net applies to all out-of-hospital medical services listed on the Medicare Benefits Schedule, helping to make your ongoing care more affordable.

If you have Private Health Insurance you may be eligible to claim benefits through Extras cover for allied health services such as physiotherapy, psychology, and more. The amount you can claim will depend on your specific level of cover and the service provided.

If you are unable to attend your appointment time, we ask that you provide notice for any appointment changes or cancellations.
24 hours prior: No cancellation fees
Less than 24 hours or ‘No-Show’ - a $100 cancellation fee may apply and full fees for your next appointment will be payable at the time of booking.

Our booking platform will request your payment details to secure your appointment.
Fees are paid in full at the conclusion of your appointment. All major credit and debit cards are accepted.
Surcharges are excluded from EFTPOS debit payments.

Our Psychiatrist, Psychologist and Mental Health GPs work as a team and can step in and support you during business hours, even if your specific doctor is away.
However, should you or someone you know require urgent crisis assistance, pls call please call 000 and ask for immediate support. You can also present to your nearest Emergency or Accident and Emergency service at your local hospital for immediate intervention and support.
The 1800 011 511 Mental Health Line is NSW Health's 24/7 statewide phone service, linking people with NSW Health mental health services. It is a free service.
It is staffed by trained mental health professionals who:
Offer mental health advice
Complete a brief assessment
Make recommendations for appropriate care, including referral to NSW Health mental health services.
The mental health professional will ask you questions to understand your needs and recommend appropriate services.
